JOB DESCRIPTION:
Yahoo! Inc. is looking for a researcher to join the User Experience and Design team. Ideal candidates must be organized, able to work independently, and able to switch rapidly among priorities in a fast-paced and exciting work environment. Previous experience conducting primary research in an online environment is preferred, as is the ability to coordinate a multidisciplinary team. Strong research, analytic, and communication skills are critical. Familiarity with standard user research methodologies, web site design, and basic survey construction is required, and experience with quantitative analysis using SPSS or other statistical software is a plus.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Planning, conducting, analyzing, and presenting results from self-guided research projects on topics such as network integration, cross-product design, pattern creation, and accessibility issues.
- Coordinating with other team members to match research methodology with design and business goals.
- Fostering strategic thinking and creative vision by team members while maintaining tactical focus on successful project execution.
- Integrating understanding of fundamental business needs into role as a strong user advocate.
- Collaborating with other research organizations within Yahoo! to create comprehensive, coordinated research.
- Synthesizing research findings from internal and external sources into meaningful recommendations and actionable data.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A B.A. in human factors, psychology, human-computer interaction or related field (or equivalent experience) is required.
- At least 2 years experience in user experience research or related areas, conducting ethnographic research, participatory design, heuristic evaluations, usability testing, benchmark testing, competitive evaluations, and questionnaire/survey design within a product development organization or large website.
- Must have excellent presentation skills, communicate clearly and effectively, have strong analytical skills, have excellent interpersonal skills, and be able to collaborate actively with others in a cross-functional team with the ability to build consensus.
- Must pay attention to detail, yet be able to see the big picture and maximize work effort.
- Must have a clear understanding of the user-centered design process and how research is an integral part of this process.
- Must be innovative, demonstrate an ability to "think out of the box", and be willing to pursue solutions that go beyond what is asked for.
