POSITION TITLE: Director, User Experience & Design for Network Products

DURATION: Full Time

JOB DESCRIPTION:
You will be responsible for managing the Network Products User Experience and Design (UED) group. You will manage an interdisciplinary team of UED professionals responsible for crafting the User Experience of some of Yahoo’s most critical products including most notably Yahoo Front Page, My Yahoo, Yahoo 360 and Yahoo Groups as well as core platforms including personalization.
Your success will depend upon having the vision, execution, leadership and collaborative team spirit that result in innovative and world class products.

You will be responsible for operational, creative, and strategic direction for UED staff in the Network Product team. You will establish the group’s strategic and tactical goals inline with corporate initiatives. You will oversee the development next generation design for key products; deploy design guidelines and their integration into Yahoo! network standards. You will oversee the quality and timeliness of the group’s project delivery, ensuring successful partner relationships, and optimizing the group to meet business objectives and communicating achievements to the rest of the organization.

This position requires an experienced manager who understands the business, the user, and the user experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Provide design direction and creative leadership to deliver
consistently high quality user experiences across Network Products
* Understand the needs of internal and external customers, the
business, and the competitive landscape. Translate this
understanding into a vision and strategic plan for research and
design to meet the needs of the company.
* Build a world class team of interaction designers, visual
designers, design researchers, and design managers. Bring great
people management skills and mentorship to the team. Deliver
performance reviews; provide management goals by objective; determine
compensation and career growth.
* Coordinate the activities of the team with other key departments,
ensuring accurate and highly professional communications,
coordination, and collaboration at all times.
* Oversee projects running concurrently on multiple tracks from
planning through launch.
* Oversee the development of design standards, guidelines, and best
practices to ensure successful knowledge sharing and to improve
visual, functional, and conceptual consistency across products and
components.

QUALIFICATIONS (Education And Experience):
* Minimum 8-10 years team management experience in the area of user
experience, including leadership of a large cross functional team
across a range of project types and industry verticals (web
applications, desktop software or client applications).
* Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with and
influence senior executives and internal clients.
* Proven experience with formal design and research methodologies.
* Evidence of successful team leadership across multiple project
lifecycles, ability to attract, train, retain and mentor teams.
* Must be able to manage effectively within a matrixed structure.
* Proven track record of leading user experience organizations to be
highly influential, effective, and strategic.
* Proven strong decision maker with ability to prioritize complex
organizational objectives and motivate team to deliver credible,
consumable, reliable results in a timely manner.
* Degree in graphic design, human interface design, interaction
design, computer science; human factors or information design.
Advanced degree in these field or MFA/MBA a plus.
