Introduction: The KOHL Group is providing permanent placement services for the User Centered Design organization within a global developer of advanced imaging systems.

Our client’s Corporate Design & Usability organization is looking for a Human/Computer Interaction Designer. This individual will be responsible for software user interface design, for both the Windows and Macintosh platforms. The support for desktop software should integrate platform standards with the corporate brand strategy. This individual will need to work with other Human Factors engineers and Graphics Designers, to ensure that the software is consistent with the existing product line.

This person would have a strong leadership role in the day-to-day interaction with the software development team, for directing the user experience design of a commercialized product. They will also be responsible for documenting the user needs, use cases, workflows, and user interface specifications. In addition, he or she would be expected to verify correct functionality of the implemented user interface code. Planning and administering usability tests, along with working with Business Research to align Voice of Customer research is essential.

This position is based in Rochester, NY. Occasional domestic travel is required.

This position provides critically important support of software product development for both Windows and Macintosh platforms. The position also supports DFIS product management and marketing, to establish priorities and appropriate consistency across the software application and the product system for functional requirements, operation, and interaction design.

This role for a talented human/computer interaction designer is necessary for collaboration with cross-functional and cross-platform teams, while maintaining a consistent design vision both across the software platforms and the product system itself.

This position will entail leadership to inform and influence design for the software team that is remote. In addition, the person in this role would work closely with the New Media/Graphics group to ensure that the newly established vision for the software user experience is captured in the design and communicated effectively.

Required Skills/Experience:

-Must have online portfolio to submit along with resume.

-5+ years of experience in designing software for both the Windows and Macintosh platforms; at least one year designing for both Windows XP and Macintosh OS X.

-MA or MS in Cognitive Psychology, Human Factors, Computer Science, or Human/Computer Interaction or 10+ years equivalent experience designing software for both the Windows and Macintosh platforms

-Experience applying usability evaluation, usability inspection, and usability testing methodologies for driving user interface design excellence with customer input.

-Skilled team interaction and leadership, and excellent communication and negotiation skills.

-Knowledge of the software development lifecycle, its processes, and related deliverables.

-Strong verbal and written communication is necessary to drive the iterative design process.

-The ability to work independently and as a member of a cross-functional team is a must.
