Human/Technology Systems Engineer - McLean, VA

MITRE, our people provide solutions to challenges of critical national importance. That’s the way it’s been for over 45 years at MITRE, a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to serve the public interest. Our engineers, scientists and support specialists apply their expertise to hundreds of different projects, each one demanding high levels of technical, operational and domain knowledge. At MITRE, we are committed to attracting and retaining bright, hard-working people who possess a command of technology, a dedication to public service, and the focus it takes to meet the challenges we face —now and in the future.

Help our Washington-based customers deliver technology that better suits people, and new workflow processes that increase people’s effectiveness.

Perform "human-centered engineering" tasks for customers, such as developing usability requirements for new or upgraded systems, or planning for collaborative technology adoption.

The successful candidate will have solid experience understanding how people interact with technology. Further, the candidate will have:
• The ability to analyze the effectiveness of collaborative systems for a particular group
• Knowledge of techniques used to develop an understanding of how members of a particular group are currently working with technology, such as contextual inquiry, ethnography or workflow analysis.
• The ability to identify, prioritize and resolve difficult client problems within their assigned work areas and provide guidance to team members as needed
• Excellent written and oral communications skills, especially when presenting information to audiences unfamiliar with HCI or social science techniques

BS minimum, but preferably MS, in Human-Computer Interaction, Human Factors Engineering, Computer Science, Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, Engineering Psychology, Social Science, or Organizational Science. Minimum of 5 years of work experience experience designing technology for people.

Applicants selected for this position will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Only US citizens are eligible for a security clearance. For this position, MITRE will consider only applicants with security clearances at the TS/SCI level.

MITRE listed on FORTUNE's "The 100 Best Companies To Work For" four years in a row!

The MITRE Corporation is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer and is committed to diversity in our workplace.
