Degree and area of specialization:
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Education, or similar field required. Masters or Advanced degree preferred.
Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
Demonstrated experience creating and managing higher education web sites. Must demonstrate an understanding of delivering educational content via the web. Programming knowledge or experience using Cold Fusion, PhP, ASP, Java, Javascript or Perl. Knowledge or experience of design tools such as Fireworks, Flash or Photoshop. Knowledge or experience with relational database systems such as MySQL, Access, SQL Server or Oracle.
Principal duties:
The Information Processing Consultant will advance curriculum and statewide healthcare distance education objectives of the Medical School and affiliated programs by consulting with faculty on an on- going basis to determine effective methods for delivering educational content via the web. The position will develop and implement systems utilizing non-traditional learning methods in a web-based environment that will be accessible by faculty, students, health care providers and communities and citizens of Wisconsin. The Innovations in Medical Education (IME) web site will be the primary focus of this position.
Since this is a new site, the Information Processing Consultant must design site architecture from inception. Candidate must have experience in leading a web site design effort. The Information Processing Consultant will lead and perform work in all phases of the user experience: developing site objectives/user needs, functional/ content requirements, interaction design, interface/navigation design and visual design. Position will report to the Director, Information Technology.
Instructional Technology Development - 80% Design, develop, and administer a database-driven website to support the Medical School's mission of providing statewide access to health information as part of the Wisconsin Partnership Fund for a Healthy Future.
Work with Faculty, staff, students and other health professionals to develop appropriate interface requirements for web site to meet their educational objectives.
In cooperation with faculty, research and develop methods for delivering web-based educational content for effective learning.
Develop and implement usability studies to determine the effectiveness of the web site in meeting educational objectives.
Consult with faculty on database system for storage and retrieval of educational content.
Instructional Technology Support - 15%
Participate in strategic planning for Distance Education technology with faculty and staff and serve as a member of the Innovations in Medical Education web team.
Assist in providing technology assistance and advice for Medical School faculty, students and staff on making effective use of the web site for distance education.
Prepare administrative reports and deliver on a regular basis to key stakeholders.
Assist in the digitization of materials, documents, and other formats for inclusion on the web site.
Professional Activities & Development - 5% Write articles, develop posters and participate in other activities on the use of web site for education, teaching and distance learning.
Participate in local, state and national committees.
Additional Information:
Preferred Experience: Work experience in an academic setting or other university public service area. Experience working in a production environment delivering web-based instructional resources. Attention to detail and the ability to interpret, understand, and follow technical documentation in performing complex tasks.
A period of evaluation will be required
