Wily Technology is a profitable, pre-IPO company founded in 1998 and headquartered just south of San Francisco. We develop J2EE applications performance management software. The time has come for us to build our interaction design team in-house and we are looking for a hands-on leader with proven expertise in user analysis and user research.
Lead Interaction Designer (Permanent Role)
In this highly visible and pivotal role, Wily is seeking an experienced Interaction Designer to lead the design of new products and product directions.
Responsibilities
Identify and research new product directions and target users.
Work internally with sales, marketing, product management, field organization and development to understand needs, concerns and constraints.
Interview and observe users and customers to understand goals, needs and environment.
Analyze, synthesize and document findings as a tool to negotiate, prioritize and communicate product requirements, including personas and scenarios.
Be consistently creative in approach, analysis and design to create innovative and elegant solutions.
Use personas, scenarios and design methodology to produce high- level "interaction frameworks".
Create detailed interface designs for all parts of the framework.
Refine the framework into a set of interface design specifications.
Document and communicate the framework and interface design using scenarios, personas, and specifications.
Work closely with development during design to make good implementation trade-off decisions.
Support development and product management throughout the product lifecycle by clarifying and re-designing as technical issues arise.
Support visual design and usability engineering and incorporate their feedback.
Become an expert in the IT systems management domain, including roles, processes and practices by visiting customers, learning from others and education.
Understand the technical hurdles of collecting and analyzing mass amounts of data with low overhead while remaining scalable and reliable.
Design highly interactive web interfaces taking into account the limitations of data transfer and web client technologies.
Design products that allow collaboration among multiple users with differing views of systems they manage.
Experience
Candidate should have 5+ years of interaction design experience.
Experience should touch upon all phases of the project (conception through analyzing customer feedback).
Experience in systems management is a plus Knowledge of Java web application architecture is a plus.
Skills
Motivated self-starter, with a high capacity for rapid learning.
Comfortable in a highly collaborative, team-oriented setting.
Education
BS or MS in Computer Science
