JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Advanced User Interfaces group was founded in 2000 to research, design, and evaluate new user interfaces for Oracle products. The multidisciplinary group of computer scientists, industrial engineers, and psychologists has recently focused the research agenda on information visualization, natural interaction interfaces, and multimodality. The group has numerous internal and external conference proceedings and journal publications, patents, an extensive internal website, and a state-of-the-art visualization laboratory for data collection with users. Several research concepts have already been incorporated into Oracle products.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position is for a Senior Advanced UI Research Designer to create new user interface visualizations that can be incorporated into future Oracle products. It will require a mix of conceptual, interaction, and graphics design skills. The designer will collaborate with other researchers to discover and understand Oracle users’ task and job requirements, usage profiles, and user needs. The designer will investigate industry trends and analyze visual and interaction designs in competitive products. The designer will create sketches, storyboards, prototypes, and other design artifacts that can be reviewed by Oracle developers and management, and tested in the laboratory with users. The designer will make presentations and revise designs pending user and developer feedback. The designer will write and illustrate design specifications and guidelines to enable developers to program the designs into Oracle products.

QUALIFICATIONS:
* Requires a bachelors or Masters in industrial design, visual design,human computer interaction or related design discipline.
* 4 years experience, preferably in designing web-based software user interfaces. Creativity and strong visual design skills, including color, typography, layout, composition, and animation, are necessary.
* Must have an on-line portfolio for review.
* Requires the ability to create visual solutions to complex user problems, and propose technically viable design alternatives.
* Education and experience in software interaction design, including information architecture and workflow design, are highly desirable.
* Working knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator, and other online sketching and rendering tools are required.
* A demonstrated ability to build low and high fidelity UI design prototypes in html, Flash, or Director is required.
* Programming skills in html, dhtml, CSS, and Javascript are desirable.
