Arrangement: 3 to 6 month contract

Location: St. Louis, MO (work must be done on client’s site in St. Louis)

Title: Senior Usability Architect

Timing: Immediate

Job Description: Major focus is on existing B2B and B2E web-based applications where there is a need for strong interaction design and information architecture expertise to integrate new features and functionality into to an existing UI design structure. In this phase there is little focus on usability testing. Selected contractor will provide specialized leadership in usability engineering including planning and executing user-centered activities such as user research (contextual inquiries, field studies, surveys, participatory design sessions), interaction design (design of conceptual model, workflow, information architecture and user interface), and validation (think aloud, heuristic evaluation, user testing). The usability architect interacts with Product Managers, Visual Designers, Technical Designers, Software Engineers, and Project Managers throughout the development lifecycle to effectively achieve business stakeholders’ objectives and meet target audience needs and expectations. Keep abreast of current HCI issues and best practices in electronic commerce and new technologies as well as contribute to the development of electronic commerce and net-centric user experience strategies based on these research activities.

Required Skills:

-Strong negotiation skills with diplomacy; good judgment; ability to integrate quickly and easily within an established corporate culture.

-Strong interaction design skills; quick grasp of business context and goals relating to design decisions; provides practical and creative solutions with multiple options; can create easy to follow process flows, site maps, wireframes for use by an interdisciplinary team; solid user research, analysis and testing experience.

-Strong task analysis skills; contextual inquiry and user observations; heuristic evaluations and cognitive walkthroughs; observation of user testing sessions.

-Minimum three (3) years experience in user-centered design techniques (such as planning, conducting, and summarizing usability studies; analyzing tasks and needs of end users; identifying environmental and competitive factors; articulating users' conceptual models of complex tasks; and/or participating in discount usability methods).

-Minimum one (1) year experience in web design.

-Advanced degree or significant training in human factors engineering, human-computer interaction, cognitive psychology, industrial engineering, or similar field. -Ability to make strategic and tactical design recommendations based on usability findings and standard design practices.

-Must have solid understanding of Web sites and Web application design, and working knowledge of HTML.

-Familiarity with the Windows and/or Macintosh Human Interface Guidelines a plus.

-Experience determining which user centered design techniques is appropriate throughout the interface development life cycle.

-Outstanding analytical, organizational, collaboration, negotiation, facilitation, interpersonal, and communication skills.

-Must be able to put ideas into a tangible form.

-Must have sound judgment and be able to work without supervision.

-Must be able to develop new approaches to complex design problems while meeting aggressive deadlines.

-Experience being a mentor to other team members involved in usability and interaction design tasks.

-Experience in identifying, evaluating, and recommending technology and marketing strategies to meet user and business needs within scope and budget.
