The Microsoft Hardware User Experience team is looking for a strong interaction design leader and manager to drive all interaction design activities in our mouse, keyboard, and emerging product businesses. You will be working with an interdisciplinary user experience team and leading a team of 4 interaction designers to create exceptional user experiences for our highly successful products.

You'll direct hardware interaction designers to deliver scenarios, prototypes, screen designs and final art for all product teams in Microsoft Hardware Division -- so you'll need to have excellent leadership skills and command of a wide range of interaction design tools, prototyping techniques and processes. You'll manage a team of exceptional talent, developing staff performance objectives, monitoring individual career paths; and identifying and managing consultant resources to augment employee contributions - so you will need to be an accomplished people manager and have strong visual and interaction design skills. You'll need to design for a wide range of user behaviors and interaction models for both near and long term products -- so you will need to think strategically, be creative and be able to innovate ways to communicate and visualize user experiences. You will represent Microsoft interaction design for customers and press so you'll need to be a great communicator. Most importantly, you'll need to be passionate about our customers - consumers who want great user experiences.

Additional qualifications:
At least 5-7 years of experience in the industry designing for consumer hardware and software products. A strong portfolio demonstrating breadth and creativity in successful product design as well as versatility with design and prototyping tools and an illustration of design and creative process is required.

Solid knowledge of the field of human-computer interaction, interaction design, affordance design, interface design and visual design is required. Strong interest in and aptitude for learning new technologies is a must. Additional, hands-on experience in a secondary field such as industrial design, software engineering, user research, etc. is highly desired. Strong written and oral communication skills are required.

Education requirements include either an MA/MS in interaction design, industrial design or highly related field, OR a BA/BS in one of the above fields with significant industry experience.

Help us evolve the discipline of interaction design and demonstrate what a strategic business asset it is.
