The goal of this project is develop innovative visualization techniques in order to manage applications and users' activity in computer networks and to do usability testing of prototypes through the whole project. This one year project will be performed within a small team both at the University of Fribourg and within the NextThink SA.
The ideal candidate should have done a PhD in the field of Human Computer Interaction and have a good publication record. A good knowledge of information visualization techniques, usability testing methods and Java AWT would be a plus.
The DIVA research group (Document, Image and Voice Analysis) of the University of Fribourg (UniFri) is dealing with multimedia engineering, with a focus on image and signal processing, speech recognition and document analysis. Since 2001, the group has extended its research activities towards multimedia, multimodal content mining, cross-modal alignment and human-computer interaction. In particular, together with some colleagues of the DIVA group, Dr Denis Lalanne design, implement, and evaluate new interface technologies that are useable, useful, and appealing to a broad cross-section of people (Keywords: user centered deisgn, usability, multimodal interfaces, tangible interfaces, content-based multimedia indexing, information visualization)
NEXThink SA (Switzerland) develops and sells Security Intelligence Management System, a new generation of security solutions that assists enterprises in reducing their internal security exposure and their operational risk. NEXThink solution monitors networked-application activity and user behaviour on the network. It detects security policy violation and unknown threats like stolen identities, abnormal behaviours, unknown applications active on the network such as spyware or viruses.
