Job Description

A Senior Project Engineer (SPE) is the overall engineering lead on a project and owns the project throughout its entire lifecycle. The Senior Project Engineer is responsible for the delivery of all engineering aspects of projects on time, within budget, and to clients' satisfaction. The Senior Project Engineer works closely with the Core Project Team to assure that the client features and functionality requirements are being met and are present in the final software product. The Senior Project Engineer is also responsible for the integrity of all engineering, as well as the successful execution of the project. The job is an entrepreneurial mix of exceptional technology project management and client services.

Skill/Qualifications

• Formerly held positions as a: Technical Project Manager, Product Manager, or Process Manager.
• 2+ years of technical project management experience.
• Demonstrable team leadership, collaborative, presentation and client interface skills.
• Ability to lead, organize, and execute with little or no direction.
• Demonstrable ability to deliver projects on time, with high quality, and within budget.
• Experience with multiple major Web projects or software products from beginning to end.
• 3+ years’ experience leading small to mid-size (5-15 person) teams at the project level.
• 2 years’ coding in C, C++, or Java, preferably on Web projects.
• In-depth knowledge of UNIX or NT and associated applications and utilities.
• Strong knowledge of the Web and its technologies, tools, vendors, and products.
• 2+ years experience with Web-specific technologies such as HTML, CGI, applets and servlets.
• Demonstrable experience authoring formal specifications and related documents.
• Experience with formal structured processes such as project management and quality assurance.
• An assertive personality, team spirit, attention to detail, excellent time management skills, and strong ownership of projects.

Responsibilities

Project Related:

• Accountable for client satisfaction with, and the on-time and within-budget delivery of, the engineering aspects of projects.
• Collaborate with Producers by providing project estimates, project specifications and schedules, and leading other Engineering teams to complete commitments on time and within budget.
• Work closely with the Project Manager, who has overall responsibility for the project's budget and schedule. Report engineering tasks identified, task status, and milestones achieved.
• Work closely with supporting Producers, PE, and Senior PE in preparing project estimates, projecting specifications, and engineering schedules.
• Gather, organize and analyze all engineering specifications.
• Design solutions and architectures to achieve clients' requirements, in collaboration with Senior Architects, Server Engineers, Information Systems, R&D and Content Engineers to design and implement the engineering front-end and back-end strategy for a client site.
• Author or co-author all of a project's engineering documents including requirements, architecture, functional specifications, technical specifications (with Server Engineering), quality plan (with Quality Engineering), and the hosting/operations plan.
• Implement engineering initiatives and project objectives.
• Break down project phases into engineering tasks and sub-tasks to delegate to appropriate engineering personnel.
• Develop estimates for all engineering tasks and sub-tasks.
• Manage all engineering staff and contractors on the project (Server Engineers, Content Engineers, Quality Engineers, Hosting Engineers) at the task level.
• Ensure that engineering team disciplines are supported and assisted with their committed tasks and responsibilities.
• Track project status, project issues, and following-through with appropriate resolution.
• Use designated tools for tracking project status.
• Serve as the liaison between engineering and the other disciplines on the project: Creative, Project Management, Account Management, and Client and Strategic Services.

Department Related:

• Provide leadership in defining and estimating feasibility of client projects.
• Mentor Project Engineers and Associate Project Engineers on projects and assist them with developing necessary technical project management skills.
• Participate in the implementation of Engineering group strategies.
• Understand and support the introduction of new technologies and the consequent knowledge transfer.
• Provide technical leadership in designated specialty areas.
• Provide technical direction to contractors and project engineers.
