Oracle's Usability Organization was recently decentralized along business lines, creating several new open positions and opportunities.
We are looking for senior level experienced Usability Engineers to join Oracle's expanding worldwide Applications User Experience Group – engineers, who will drive user research for complex enterprise applications that provide analysis and decision support to global businesses.
You will be working within a multidisciplinary development team, championing customer interests, and contributing during product definition, design, and development. Specific responsibilities include planning, designing and executing usability evaluations of software development applications. Working closely with development teams, plan and conduct customer research (e.g., surveys, site visits, conference site focus groups). You will work closely with interface designers & visual designers to validate interface design prototypes, facilitate the development of those prototypes, as well as resolving trade offs between alternative design concepts. You will be working with Oracle’s senior usability managers, all well published leaders in the field leaders, who will encourage you to publish as well.
These positions are:
1. Sr/Princ (Lead) Usability Engineer/Experience with IT Management Products Oracle’s System Management Products Org
*BS or MS in Psychology or HCI or a related field. Computer science training is a plus.
* Usability experience with IT Management products is highly desired.
* 5+ years of experience conducting laboratory-based usability evaluations, video editing, applied data analysis, and report generation.
* Extensive experience gathering test requirements, developing evaluation scenarios, questionnaire/survey design.
* Experience with IT Management products is highly desired.
* Strong people, teamwork, and oral/written communication skills are required.
2. Sr/Princ (Lead) Usability Engineer
Oracle Tools & Server Products Org
*Master's degree in Social, Cognitive, Experimental or Industrial Psychology, Human Factors or Human Computer Interaction with a solid foundation in experimental design, behavioral statistics, and human information processing theory.
*Experience applying customer-centered design methods to product development *At least 2 years professional experience in the software industry *Plus an additional 3 years, Human Factors job experience in an industrial setting in the areas of gathering user requirements, scenario development, conducting usability evaluations, and questionnaire/survey design *Strong communication and inter-personal skills honed through years of working in multi-disciplinary, collaborative teams *Knowledge of database technologies, web services, or programming knowledge (e.g., Java, DHTML) highly desirable.
3. Sr/Princ (Lead) Usability Engineer
Oracle Collaboration Suite
*A degree in Psychology, HCI, Human Factors, Industrial Engineering, plus 3-5 years of usability software industry experience.
*Previous experience working with "collaboration and communications"
products, and/or Enterprise-level applications is desirable.
*Knowledge of various user research methodologies, especially field research work, and survey creation and analysis, is required.
*Ability to design and conduct industry standard benchmarking studies, and define metrics for continued product improvement would be very useful.

We are seeking talented UI Designers, who will creatively contribute to the next generation of business application software.
Join exciting research and development teams – teams who are respected industry-wide for their creativity and technology contributions to software usability. As an Oracle designer you will collaborate with other researchers to discover and understand Oracle users’ task and job requirements, usage profiles, and customer needs. You will utilize a mix of conceptual, interaction, and graphics design skills. As a member of a multidisciplinary development team you will spearhead user interface design in conceptualization, design, and development of Oracle Applications. You will need to evangelize UI design directions and resolve design tradeoffs and implementation issues.
In addition, as a senior/princ designer you will have the opportunity to mentor junior designers and student interns.
These positions include:
1. Sr/Princ (Lead) UI Designer/Exp with Enterprise Software
* Experience: 7 years of product UI design experience. A track record of delivering end-to-end designs for a significant feature or application related to enterprise software, data center automation, or application management. Experience in Information Architecture is a plus.
* Degree/Major: BS/MS degree in UI design or computer science. Extensive experience in both technology and design are required.
* Must have a design portfolio for review, including requirements documents, screen designs, architecture diagrams, and other related information architecture and user interface design artifacts
* Technology: The ability to understand complex, distributed systems, and speak on a highly technical level with programmers. Experience with designing and implementing web-based interfaces is required. *Knowledge of JavaScript, HTML, DHTML and CSS a plus.
*Design: Knowledge of how to design for web applications and an ability to demonstrate this knowledge. *The ability to design new user interfaces and extensions to existing interfaces for complex systems.
This includes doing detailed analysis, and the experience to question existing designs and paradigms and provide innovative solutions.
*You will need to be able to mock up designs, so you need a working knowledge of tools like Photoshop, Dreamweaver, and Visio.
*Communications: Excellent spoken and written English skills.
2. Sr/Princ (Lead) UI Designer
Design Experience with End-User Applications Interfaces
*Master's degree in Computer Science, Human-Computer Interaction, Interface Design or other related discipline *At least 5 years professional experience in the software industry *Extensive experience with the design of end-user applications interfaces *Experience designing interfaces to browser-based (thin-client) applications a plus
* Must have a design portfolio for review, including requirements documents, screen designs, architecture diagrams, and other related information architecture and user interface design artifacts
3. Sr/Princ Usability Interaction Designer Oracle Collaboration Suite
*Have a Bachelors Degree or higher in Interaction, Graphic, Industrial Design or equivalent work experience of 3+ years *Must have an on-line portfolio for review.
*Have proficiency with Windows and/or Macintosh platforms, and graphics software tools and Web design tools including Photoshop and/or Illustrator.
*Bring outstanding interaction design skills, and be able to build low and high-fidelity user interface design prototypes in HTML, Flash, or Director.
*Have familiarity with Windows, Mac, and Linux as well as web-based product interfaces, industry standards/trends. Familiarity with mobile device interfaces is a plus.
*Have strong written and verbal communication skills.

I. UI Design Paid Internships
A design intern provides assistance to senior and principal level user interface designers working on Oracle’s HTML-based applications.
Qualifications:
*In a program to receive a Bachelors or Masters degree for Industrial Design, Interaction Design, Information Design, Graphic Design, Architecture, Human Factors or Human Computer Interaction.
*Must have an on-line portfolio with some software interaction design examples for review *Experience with Photoshop, Illustrator, Visio, and Excel.
*Prototyping skills (e.g., HTML dHTML, Java Script, Flash) are desired but not required.
*Familiarity with the user-centered design process.
*Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.
II. Usability Engineer Paid Internships
Location: Redwood Shores, CA; Pleasanton, Ca Sorry we cannot pay for travel or relocation.
*Your primary responsibility will be to work closely with and assist usability engineers. This can include:
planning and conducting user research, including methods such as:
ethnographic field studies, usability studies, benchmark studies, competitive evaluations, focus groups, phone interviews, user surveys, heuristic evaluations, prototype evaluations, and similar approaches.
*Preparing data collection materials (e.g., discussion guides), synthesizing end user research findings, creating presentations and reports, personas, task flows, and general documentation of research techniques and processes.
Qualifications:
*Must be a graduate student or have graduated from an accredited graduate program in the area of *Cognitive, Experimental or Industrial Psychology, Human Factors or Human Computer Interaction.
*Prototyping skills (e.g., HTML, paper, XML, Java) are desired but not required.
*Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
*Experience with office applications (e.g., MS Word, MS Excel) and the Internet required.
