User Interface Designer
Homestore is looking for a talented User Interface Designer to join our creative team.
The UI Designer is responsible for helping define the visual interface design and look-and-feel of Homestore web products such as REALTOR.com, WelcomeWagon.com, and RENTNET.com. Working closely with a cross-functional team to assess product requirements, the designer will create UI models, screen designs, and user interface interaction details that promote ease of use and a positive user experience
The ideal candidate has a strong sense for visual design, interaction design, usability, typography and color, as well as a passion for user centered design. Your portfolio must demonstrate a depth of experience with emphasis on user-interface design for web applications or complex websites.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Translate user requirements and complicated business problems into creative and clean visual design solutions while working within constraints of branding and web design standards
• Present design solutions for review with product management and engineering teams
• Create detailed design and functional documents (mockups, prototypes, specifications) that effectively communicate the visual and interaction design for technical development.
• Create style sheets and templates for standardized layout of web products
• Participate in user experience design meetings and contribute professional design experience in meeting web design standards
• Work closely with usability team members to better understand the user, test the usability of features and conceptual designs, and refine designs to improve the user experience
• Assist in development of a user interface design style guide that incorporates the visual design elements used across product user interfaces, help develop a visual design library for common user interface elements (buttons, icons, etc.) and conceive, document, and evangelize user interface guidelines and standards companywide
QUALIFICATIONS:
• At least 3 years experience designing the user interface on client applications and/or complex web applications. Experience working on large consumer facing websites are a plus.
• Bachelors degree or equivalent in Graphic Design, Information or Interactive Design or other design discipline
• Thorough knowledge of web design including color, typography, browser constraints and international standards; solid experience with and an understanding of web technologies from the designer perspective
• Expert knowledge of web design tools including Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and Macromedia Dreamweaver
• Independent, detail-oriented self-starter with strong project management skills; ability to manage workflow and deadlines for multiple, simultaneous projects
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to sell an idea and back up design decisions with real world data
• Solid understanding of the fundamentals of user interface design; have experience working through the entire product life cycle, and are familiar with user-centered design methods.
• Ability to collaborate with Product Management, Usability Specialists, Engineering, Designers, and Quality Assurance throughout all phases of a project.
