Manager, User Experience Team – Consumer Web Applications
Dynamic leader needed to address tough usability challenges. Act as customer advocate and evangelist for the user centered design (UCD) process, demonstrate ability to effectively lead teams in a rapid-development environment, and evangelize usability efforts to the larger organization. You're passionate about the web, love to work on a diverse range of projects, and want to help shape the future of the world’s most customer-centric company.
Key responsibilities:
* As the hands-on manager of this five-person team, you will serve as a vocal customer advocate and customer champion to build a great customer experience.
* Direct the team as they work with company-wide development teams to collect, organize, and refine customer requirements.
* Mentor team members and recruit new team members.
* You will consolidate findings in order to see the 'big picture' and communicate it effectively to project teams and to executives.
* Manage the usability lab and testing process, typically conducting multiple studies every month.
* You will oversee team activities: initiate field studies, interviews, focus groups and competitive analyses; facilitate information architecture exercises such as the development of personas, card sorting, task and scenario analyses; conduct heuristic evaluations, cognitive walkthroughs, and other review methods; script, conduct, and analyze usability studies of existing and proposed designs; lead and participate in rapid prototyping cycles with development teams. The team frequently collaborates with other research organizations, such as market research and data mining.
Qualifications:
* A degree or extensive coursework in human-computer interaction (HCI), usability engineering, cognitive or experimental psychology, technical communication, anthropology, or a related field.
* At least two years managing a team of user experience and usability professionals
* Seven or more years of industry experience.
* Significant experience contributing to the effectiveness of consumer-facing web sites.
* Demonstrable experience designing and conducting different types of user research, including lab-based usability studies, benchmarking, field studies, and participatory design studies.
* Conducted dozens of usability studies over a period of years.
* You must have exceptional analytical ability, especially with regard to observation of customer behavior and effective interface design.
* A passion for the web
* An understanding of internet technology such as browsers and coding languages (HTML, JavaScript, CSS, etc.) and the impacts those variables have on design and the customer experience is important.
* UI design, statistical analysis, and web programming desirable
