Senior Information Architect/User Experience Designer
Schematic is seeking a Senior Information Architect/User Experience Designer to join either our New York or Los Angeles teams. Schematic is one of the nation’s leading interactive agencies. Headquartered in Los Angeles with offices in New York and Atlanta, we provide award-winning user interface, design and technology solutions for the Web, advanced devices and television. Schematic develops across a wide array of platforms including set-top boxes, game consoles, mobile devices, and the Internet. We have recently developed projects with ABC News, Comcast, CNN, Fox, Hitachi, Microsoft, and MTV.
You will work within a team-oriented environment, creating conceptual frameworks and documentation designed to aid in the development of user-centered design and technology solutions. This role is for a seasoned information architect and designer, with a strong personal vision for how technology and design can be mobilized to create usable, extensible, accessible and gratifying user experiences, both within traditional Web development, as well as on emerging platforms, such as iTV and mobile networks.
Responsibilities include:
+ Define functionality, content, navigation, and interaction models through wireframes, site-maps, process flowcharts, content matrices, page description diagrams and other documentation
+ Present IA/Experience Design deliverables and recommendations to clients, and lead related meetings
+ Contribute to the accurate definition of project scope and phasing
+ Participate in business development and project planning (e.g. putting together and participating in presentations, scoping, resource planning, etc.)
+ Create user personae and use-case scenarios
+ Contribute to the development of content/data models, nomenclature and taxonomies
+ Apply an understanding of how IA and Experience Design concerns and requirements differ from platform-to-platform (e.g. between the Web, TV, and mobile)
+ Research latest tools, methodologies, practices and trends that relate to the field (e.g. Web 2.0, rich-media applications, etc.)
+ Generate reusable design patterns and document templates
+ Anticipate clients’ needs and deliver innovative solutions
+ Facilitate and anticipate the application of Web standards and client-side coding best-practices to interfaces vis-a-vis design and accessibility concerns
+ Help identify which client and server-side technologies are appropriate for given projects
+ Manage deliverable documents, utilizing version and source control
+ With other team members, build and strengthen long-term client relationships
+ Mentor and train staff
+ Contribute to the overall strategic direction and vision of projects, making positive contributions in a tightly-knit, multidisciplinary team environment
Qualifications:
+ Bachelor's or Master's degree in Graphic or Industrial Design, Computer Science, HCI, Fine Arts, Architecture, Library Sciences or related areas; or equivalent experience
+ 5+ years experience as a key member of a multidisciplinary interactive design and development team, overseeing multiple projects from conception through completion
+ Must be able to communicate complex ideas clearly to a variety of audiences, with varying degrees of technical sophistication; must be able to apply these communication skills to build consensus
+ Must demonstrate a capacity for strategic, conceptual and associative thinking, and the ability to translate this thinking into useful conceptual designs and supporting documentation
+ Experience working with and designing for Content Management Systems
+ Must have a strong understanding of established Interactive technologies, and curiosity about emerging ones
+ Must be self-confident enough to ask questions when you don’t know the answer, as well as generous enough to make yourself open to those who ask you for help
