Job description:
Contractor, 3-12 months -or- Full-time

Looking for a Lead/Senior User Experience Researcher to join the User Experience & Design team (multiple levels available). In this position, you will lead the user experience research efforts to create usable, useful and compelling experiences in the domains of selling, buying and other product focused user research.

Primary Job Responsibilities
(Essential responsibilities of the position for which the individual is held accountable)

* Responsible for planning and conducting user research, including usability studies, ethnographic field studies, competitive evaluations, participatory design sessions, surveys, card sorting, usability inspections, and similar methods.

* Provide insight and vision to the team based on researching user needs. Convert research findings into actionable results.

* Work closely with interaction designers, creative designers, product managers, marketing, engineers, and other user experience researchers to define and improve the user experience of products and websites.

* Synthesize research findings from other data sources (including market research and data mining) into meaningful recommendations and actionable items.

* Understand the business needs, while researching the needs of the user, in order to create solutions and opportunities for the business unit.

* Effectively interface with executives (including VPs, Directors, and Product/Marketing Managers).

Job Requirements
(Knowledge, skills, abilities, experience required to perform job)

* Master's degree or Ph.D. in Human Factors, Human-Computer Interaction, Cognitive Psychology, Experimental Psychology, Social Psychology, Cognitive Science, Anthropology, or related field (or equivalent experience).

* At least 5 to 7 years experience in conducting user experience research using a wide variety of research methods. Experience working with high-traffic consumer websites and e-commerce sites is preferred.

* Experience researching user needs throughout the entire product development cycle. Must be skilled at conducting upfront research early in the product development process, with a proven record of informing the product direction and strategy.

* Experience working within cross-functional teams and various levels of management.

* Able to develop creative approaches to researching complex user experience problems and can convey ideas in tangible form.

* Must be innovative, demonstrate an ability to *think out of the box*, and think beyond what is asked for.

* Must be organized, able to act independently, and able to switch rapidly between different projects in a fast-paced and exciting environment.

* Excellent written and oral communication skills
