Job Description:
Consumer Experience Design (CXD) is an organization within Motorola's Mobile Devices (MD) business unit. We employ a user-centered design approach in order to optimize business strategies, build our brand, ensure usability and develop rich experiences. Our group is responsible for defining the physical and digital experience of Motorola's mobile devices. Our activities include industrial design, interaction design, screen and information design, design research, color, material and finish specifications, product graphic design, task flow specifications, lighting and visual media design, sound design and animation.
The Interaction Design Team collaborates closely with global telecom service providers and internal work partners to create compelling, usable and innovative mobile experiences for over 100 million worldwide users. We create seamless solutions that include multimedia (music and video streaming, mp3, TV, video telephony), calling (IM, VoIP, push-to-talk), connectivity (Bluetooth, voice recognition, WiFi), messaging (SMS, MMS, email), and productivity (calendar, phonebook) applications.
Positions
*Interaction Designer: The User Interface Designer is responsible for leading and actively participating in the planning, design, documentation and development of the user interfaces and user experience concepts. In addition, the user interface designer will champion the end-user and promote user-centered design methodologies throughout Mobile Devices.
*Senior Interaction Designer: In addition to fulfilling the responsibilities of a UI Designer, the Senior UI Designer is responsible for designing large-scale features, mentoring designers, and leading projects.
*Lead Interaction Design: The UI Design Lead is responsible for coordinating design efforts within a domain, mentoring designers, identifying and solving cross-domain design issues, coordinating efforts with third parties, interacting with internal partners to influence product definition, and influencing design process.
*Interaction Design Manager: The Interaction Design Manager is responsible for developing domain-specific goals and initiatives, driving their team to deliver specific designs, project managing domain initiatives, developing design talent, career management, coordinating with other CXD managers to achieve department (CXD) goals, drive business units in the direction of compelling, useful and usable design, educate customers and senior management on good UI design, drive adoption by customers of domain-specific designs, and develop processes necessary to enable domain teams to function effectively within Motorola and CXD.
Qualifications:
General Interaction Designer Qualifications *Familiarity with concept development, design and process methodology, scenario planning, user interface modeling, and information design *Ability to resolve and document detailed design and implementation issues *Creative problem solving skills *Ability to work independently as well as with a team *Self-motivated with a high level of responsibility and professionalism *Exceptional communication skills (writing, listening, presenting) *English proficiency required; Other languages a plus (particularly
Mandarin) *Attention to detail (What's wrong with the sentence above?) *A Bachelor's or Master's degree in a related field *Experience with usability testing or ethnographic research *Experience developing and documenting use cases, task flows, screen and interaction design *Familiarity with information architecture and cognitive psychology principles *Practical knowledge of Visio, Illustrator, Photoshop, Microsoft Office applications and Microsoft Project *Sustained attention to detail from concept to implementation *Experience working directly with implementation teams as peer partners
