ABOUT THE COMPANY:
VMware Inc., an EMC company and a pioneer in virtualization software for industry-standard computers, is seeking a Senior Level Interaction Designer, for our headquarters location in Palo Alto, CA.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Working with multidisciplinary development teams, the UI designer will spearhead user interface design in conceptualization, design, and development of VMware products. Responsibilities include identifying requirements, developing user models, designing and prototyping UI for interaction, developing and maintaining UI specifications and guidelines, communicating with development team to evangelize UI design directions and resolve design tradeoffs and implementation issues. Will collaborate closely with UI engineering team and product marketing team to conduct necessary front-end research and support usability efforts throughout the product development cycle. Will also work closely with visual designers to achieve optimal visual appearance of products.
QUALIFICATIONS:
* Must have a minimum of 5 years of industry experience developing
graphical software applications for commercial desktop or Web
products.
* Must have a minimum of 5 years of industry experience leading the
interaction design process for a commercial desktop or Web products
that have shipped and have proven successful.
* Portfolio available for review.
* Strong conceptual skills and demonstrated ability to prototype
and design elegant UI solutions to user problems. Thoroughly versed
in the state of the art methodologies in interaction design.
* Proven track record in applying user-centered design processes
and methods to product development.
* Strong communication and people skills in working in a
multi-disciplinary, collaborative environment.
* Technically Skilled (user interface programming on any desktop
platform, HTML/DHTML, CGI-BIN, ASP.NET, or J2EE, and UI graphics
design using Photoshop, Illustrator, Visio, or comparable graphics
products).
* Strong analytical skills, attention to detail
* BSCS or equivalent. MS or Phd in HCI desirable.
