Graduate Professional Internship for Summer 2006 Sandia National Laboratories (www.sandia.gov) in Albuquerque, NM Application Deadline: November 25, 2005
HCI Research Internship
------------------------
You will work closely with the Collaborative Environments Department, which designs and creates decision support, collaboration, and knowledge management software. As the number of employees in our business area increases, it is becoming more difficult for us to share ideas and solutions among our own project groups. We are looking for grad interns with an interest in ethnographic research and fieldwork to conduct a study of our business area. We want you to discover what inter- and intra-group collaboration methods are currently used, which methods are successful, where breakdowns exist, and possible solutions for improving collaboration.
Job Requirements
-----------------
1. Currently enrolled full-time (9 hours) in an accredited graduate program in Human-Computer Interaction, Human Factors, Computer Science, or a similar program.
2. Completed a course in ethnographic research/fieldwork techniques.
3. Completed a course or research project that required the use of
qualitative and contextual design methods for evaluating a system (social or technical).
4. Excellent verbal, written and interview skills.
5. Prior experience with GUI programming or a rapid-prototyping tool
(Visual Basic, Flash, Dreamweaver, etc.) a plus.
Program requirements
---------------------
1. Students must be enrolled full time (9 hours graduate).
2. Pay is commensurate with number of credit hours completed.
3. Students must have a demonstrated minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.5 for this technical assignment. Please note that the corporate minimum requirements for regular employment are 3.2 for BS/BA and 3.5 for MS/PhD (should the student be thinking of applying for a regular position in the future).
4. Graduate students may work up to 30 hours/week during fall/spring and full time (40 hours/week) during school breaks.
5. Sandia National Laboratories is an equal opportunity employer M/F/D/V and a drug-free work place.
6. A position at Sandia requires a Department of Energy granted security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship. Employees must be eligible for clearance processing at the time of hire.
