Summary of Job:

The Studio Tools department is responsible for Pixar's in-house movie production software. This software has been used to make the Academy Award-winning films The Incredibles and Finding Nemo.

The Studio Tools user interface design group is looking for a talented Interaction Designer to create world-class designs for advanced animation and movie-production systems. This position is part of a small design team which works collaboratively with developers and end-users to design and build powerful, interaction-intense graphics software. As Interaction Designer, you will be responsible for designing software behaviors and logical, consistent presentation of functions within the software environment. The role requires initiative, creativity, and the ability to work independently. Strong problem-solving and analytic skills are needed, as is the ability to prepare and present detailed design specifications.

The ideal candidate should be fluent in the theory and practice of designing user-centered systems and have a well-developed software literacy that includes a thorough understanding of GUI conventions across a variety of platforms.

Qualifications:

- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Human Factors, HCI, cognitive science, graphic design or related field
- 3-5 years experience designing desktop software applications
- C, C++
- The ideal candidate will have experience working on professional level graphic software versus web applications
- Understanding of user-centered design process and proven interaction design abilities
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Ability to communicate design rationale and build consensus
- Creativity to invent new solutions to complex design problems
- Familiarity with standard graphics applications (e.g. Photoshop, Illustrator, Fireworks, Freehand)
- Knowledge of animation or media production processes highly desirable
- 2D or 3D graphics software
- Interactive direct manipulation tools, like those found in Photoshop, Final Cut, or Maya
- Data visualization
- Widgets and other UI components
- Application frameworks & policies, e.g. window management, customization, command structure
- Asset management
-Prototyping experience a huge plus
