Position Title:
Sr. UI Designer / Prototyper
Location: Mountain View, CA

Primary Responsibilities:
The person in this position has direct responsibility for creating the user interface of key customer experiences and projects. S/he primarily creates html-based clickable prototypes and interaction models as well as written specifications but may also develop static wire frames, screen flows, use cases and visual mockups. It is critical that the candidate work effectively within a matrixed organization and be comfortable producing multiple deliverables under tight timelines. The effectiveness of the deliverables will be assessed by running customer studies. The candidate must enjoy feedback and work closely with user researchers and others to understand current barriers, likely solutions, and must efficiently incorporate changes that will ensure the deliverable meets users? needs and expectations. This person must also enjoy teaching best practices out across the organization and helping others to learn to prototype effectively and efficiently.

Skills
Understands and applies sophisticated design principles and iterative design processes within assigned areas of responsibility Designs and develops dynamic application page functionality utilizing object oriented principles and design patterns Creates clearly documented user goals, plans, designs and results and communicates clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences Quickly creates reasonable estimates of schedules, work plans, and deliverables Compares, contrasts, and prioritizes among alternative approaches to meeting those objectives Uses judgment to suggest solutions to design problems that optimize among customer needs, business constraints, and technological realities Responsible for appropriate levels of quality on owned deliverables Deliverables ultimately achieve Ease of Use goals (e.g., user success rates)

Must learn and keep up with latest web/windows standards and technology Effectively collaborates with user researchers, developers, marketing managers, and others involved in the design projects and the marketing process Takes feedback in a professional manner and provides constructive feedback

Typical Deliverables
HTML clickable prototypes that drive UI designs for web experiences of moderate to high complexity Specifications and/or style guides for user experience (for engineers and
designers)
Accurate and thorough high and low-fidelity prototypes, mock-ups, wire frames, screen flows, design guidelines, design specifications, style guides, etc.
Coded web pages using html and CSS markup Presentations for communicating any of the above
Qualifications:
Hands-on experience developing HTML pages; minimum of 5-7 years experience working in a design capacity at a web agency, software company or other web-based business
2 years as a UI designer in a large scale, high transaction web environment Minimum BA/BS degree in Human Factors, Cognitive Psychology or related field

Extensive knowledge of web design fundamentals including user-centered design process, information design, visual design, and industry UI standards

Expert, hands-on knowledge of current design tools (e.g., Photoshop, Illustrator, CSS) Expert, hands-on knowledge of current web development/production tools (e.g., html, CSS, J2EE).
Understanding of user research, metrics and basic software/web processes
