Content of the Role:
- Plan and conduct mobile design research projects to inform
and support the work of the Wireless Product and UI (inc. GUI) Design Teams.
- Interpret and analyse research results to give design
direction.
- Collaborate with UI, GUI and Product designers to integrate
research activities and research results throughout the design process and ensure research findings are translated in the resulting design.
- Report on and present research projects internally, to HQ and
to outside organizations where appropriate
- Identify areas of mobile design activity that would benefit
from research activities.
- Establish strategic direction for mobile design research
activity.
- Provide internal consultancy on research and design
intelligence issues.
- Champion the role of research in Wireless UI design work.
- Commission, brief and manage subcontractors to carry out
fieldwork components of research projects where appropriate
Requirements for the Role:
- BA or MA in Interaction Design, Product Design, Graphic
Design or related area.
- Minimum of 3-5 years hands-on experience in some aspect of
Design Research/Mobile UI Design/Mobile Graphic Design or Product Design, ideally working with a multi-national mobile company or design consultancy (e.g. Nokia, Motorola, Sony Ericsson, Vodafone, Orange, IDEO, Apple, SPF).
- Must have a deep understanding of brand identity and how this
can be expressed in a mobile phone.
- Ability to plan and manage projects
- Experience of Ethnographic/Contextual research.
- Broad knowledge of design in several areas relevant for
mobile in addition to product, interaction and graphics:
* Physical user interface design
* Sound design
* Design Trends
- Good understanding of Human Factors/Ergonomics.
- Must demonstrate a creative and innovative approach to
design.
- Must demonstrate understanding of how interaction design,
graphics, product and technology work together to produce an integrated user experience.
- Ability to work and communicate with other design and
business functions.
The position is based in central London.
